Celebrating the Eternal Good Vibes of Underwater Dogs

Does anyone really look good with wet hair? Maybe the odd cartoon character pulls it off, but itā€™s a tricky look for the flesh-and-bone set. Saying that, we do have a soft spot for a wet dog. They might not exactly be sirens in the surf, but hanging out with a dog in a pool of water is one of lifeā€™s great pleasures. Weā€™d guess that photographer Seth Casteel agrees.

His photos of underwater dogs were one of dog-internetā€™s first viral sensations, and heā€™s kept the series going as a coffee table book and calendar. For something so popular and beloved, it was surprising to learn that these shots of underwater dogs actually came about by mistake. Seth originally set out to photograph some dogs on dry land, but a nearby swimming pool proved too tempting. His subject jumped in before the shoot began (us at every party). But he recognised a good thing when he saw it and went with their instincts, shooting underwater dogs instead. Although, his series On Land Dogs suggests he managed to get some dry shots too.
